Getting Greener whilst Saving Money
at Itoh Denki USA Inc.

For over 70 years, Itoh Denki has provided quality products in motor manufacturing for their customers all over the world. “Conveying Confidence” is Itoh Denki’s motto underlying the manufacture and development of their top of the line products in conveying systems. Since the company was founded in Japan in 1946, Itoh Denki has focussed on innovation. With branches in Japan, across Europe and the United States, it has expanded tremendously from the small repair shop where it all started. The Itoh Denki Group, together with its sales network, is now active across the globe. All the products are developed and industrialized in the company headquarters in Japan and then sold through the subsidiaries in France, in the USA, in Shanghai und Hong Kong.

“Technology for tomorrow” is the company motto of Itoh Denki, USA Inc., which has been supplying customers in the USA with quality products for the US market since 1996. In the meantime, it has over 20 years of production experience in the US and a total of 50 employees. For Itoh Denki, Conveying Confidence means developing and manufacturing first class, innovative products for conveying systems and already anticipating today what the market will need in the future.

Background

Until recently, Itoh Denki USA had been using a dumpster for waste disposal. This process was proving ineicient with the emptying taking too much time and costing too much money per year. With recycling booming, Itoh Denki was looking to make their facility more environmentally friendly by trying to steer away from plastic wrap and bubble wrap and instead using the cardboard they already had to produce packing material for small, daily packages. Today, with over 20 years of production experience in the United States, Itoh Denki continues to innovate and grow to anticipate future needs.

“Delivery, installation and training went smoothly, just like the operation of both machines.”

Mr. Richie Kosik Jr., Production Manager, Itoh Denki USA Inc.

Objective: Save time and money

Prior to purchasing the HSM V-Press 860 plus B baling press and the HSM ProfiPack P425 packaging machine, the Itoh Denki USA Inc. employees were spending valuable time getting the cardboard into dumpsters. With the high cost of dumpsters and the purchase of additional packing materials, Itoh Denki knew there had to be a better and more eicient alternative. After an internet search, Itoh Denki found HSM as a local vendor who could solve both of the company’s problems.

HSM was quick to respond to the inquiry and was able to provide a live demo at a trade show attended by both companies. Itoh Denki was impressed with the technology and with the ease of operating the equipment. The HSM V-Press 860 plus B baling press has a smooth and silent operation, with no wire jamming when the bales are tied which sets it apart from other balers in the market. The machine is safe to operate with its patented sliding door and front loading. The HSM ProfiPack P425 packaging machine is unique in the United States market, and using it made good business sense and also gave the company a quick return on investment (ROI).

HSM V-Press 860 plus B

The HSM V-Press 860 plus B vertical baler produces bales with an optimal bale size – not only for the American market. By selling these bales to a recycler, the machine has a very quick ROI, as well as ensuring a more environmentally friendly company.

HSM ProfiPack

Thanks to the purchase of the HSM packaging machine, the company has also become significantly more environmentally friendly in the area of packaging – there is now hardly any need to buy additional plastic or bubble wrap. Both machines therefore help to considerably reduce storage space requirements. At the same time, less time and money are needed for the disposal of cardboard, and the costs for externally sourced packaging material are saved. This means that Itoh Denki USA Inc. is ideally equipped for the future, as it operates in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner.

Market situation

With recycling becoming more prevalent within the business sector, many companies are looking for solutions to turn their waste material to cash; not only because it helps the environment, but because it also helps their bottom line. Baling presses and packaging machines are some of the most useful pieces of equipment designed to date for recycling. With balers, corrugated cardboard and other waste materials can be easily compacted and sold to brokers or recycling plants providing a quick return on investment, whilst also allowing customers to achieve their environmental goals. Cardboard perforators quickly turn used cardboard into high-quality packing materials, therefore providing economical and ecological benefits at the same time.
